Board Members Wanted
We’re getting ready to make our co-op dream a reality and we need YOU to make it happen…
Below we have listed specific critical needs – both in terms of position title and skills. If you are interested, contact our volunteer coordinator. Our current and very critical need is for board members (9 – 15) and committee members. Although all are strictly unpaid, volunteer positions, it’s possible that paid employees (or even our general manager) could eventually be sourced from these members.
Board Positions
The following conditions apply to all Board positions:
- All Board Members are obligated to perform their duties and meet the qualifications according to the proposed by-laws
- Board Members are expected to serve on one or more committees
- The initial Board of Directors will be voted upon by the Steering Committee
- Initial Board Members will be selected from interested volunteers during the period prior to the co-op opening for business
- Within two years of the co-op opening for business, the Initial Board of Directors will be replaced by eligible members elected by the general membership
- There is no financial obligation other than membership, but board members are encouraged to make a financial donation or loan to the co-op. Size of the gift or loan is a personal decision. They are expected to participate in or support fund-raising activities.
- We are looking for Initial Board Members to have some of the skills noted under the various committees and one or more of the four W’s: Work, Wisdom, Wallop, and Wealth…
To begin a conversation about any of the positions listed below, contact our volunteer coordinator.
Board President

S/he oversees all operations for the co-op. S/he will sign all contractual notes, bonds, and other official documents of the co-op. S/he will be considered a member of all committees of the co-op and will deliver the report of the Board of Directors at Membership meetings.
Board Vice-President
The VP will perform the duties and exercise the power of the President in the President’s absence. S/he will complete the unexpired term of the President in the event of the President’s death, resignation, or withdrawal from office. S/he will preside at Membership meetings but will not vote unless a tie occurs. S/he will be a liaison between the committee chairs and the Board.
Secretary
The Secretary will attend all meetings of the Membership and the BOD and will record the minutes of the meetings. S/he will give notice of meetings required by the proposed by-laws (which will be voted on by the Initial Board of Directors). S/he will be in charge of all official documents of the co-op and will also be in charge of any seal of the co-op. S/he will be a detail-oriented individual who can take effective minutes and promptly circulate them.
Treasurer
The Treasurer will monitor the Co-op operations and administrative accounts on a monthly basis and report to the BOD. S/he will assist in the preparation of the budget and advise and assist in making financial information available to both co-op Members, the Board, and governmental agencies as required by law. S/he will serve as liaison between the Board and its auditor. S/he must understand accounting rules and regulations and implement them to ensure all necessary elements are in place.
Regular Board Members
Initial Board Members will attend monthly meetings (possibly less frequently as the co-op becomes operational and as detailed in the proposed by-laws) and help make decisions which will shape the Doylestown Co-op.
